The Freedom Museum is both a museum and a new nature space in Churchill Park by Kastellet. The starting point for the creation of the new museum was the respect for the special atmosphere and tone at Kastellet. The project deserves the Arne of the Year because it both discreetly and effectively manages to create a new framework for the important basic narrative of the struggle for freedom against oppression and hatred. At the same time, it provides a new outdoor space for the protected surroundings instead of taking up space from the city. The museum effectively spans the journey between light and life above ground and darkness and storytelling underground. In this way, history is made alive and relevant, even for younger generations.
